Where to buy used books in Blackpool

Updated 01/10/2026

Blackpool, the Lancashire seaside resort of the Tower and the Illuminations, keeps a thin secondhand book trade inside its own borough: an independent bookshop on Topping Street in the town centre, the N-Vision sight-loss charity's shop on Highfield Road to the south, plus whatever books other charity shops put out alongside their clothing and homeware. Most of the dedicated book space lies outside the town. Cross into Fylde, south along the coast for St Annes and Lytham or inland to the market town of Kirkham, or go north over the Wyre boundary to Cleveleys and Fleetwood, all within about eight miles. The few prices that come up are in sterling.

Trinity Hospice, a Fylde coast hospice charity, shapes much of the hunt. Alongside its many general charity shops, it runs three units built around books and music, in St Annes, Cleveleys and Kirkham, with the St Annes shop badged for Brian House, its children's hospice. Add Lytham Hall's donation-run bookshop, the secondhand book room beside Fleetwood Museum and Coastal Chapter, a book café a short walk away in the same town, and a day around the Fylde can take in six book-led stops beyond Topping Street.

Charity bookshop (Trinity Hospice)

St Annes Book and Music Store (Brian House)

6 Wood St, St Annes, Lytham St Annes FY8 1QS

In St Annes, the Fylde seaside town 4.7 miles south of central Blackpool, Trinity Hospice turns a whole Wood Street shop over to secondhand books and music, with the money going to Brian House, its children's hospice. The hospice's shop finder, as archived on 10 June 2026, carries this shop twice with different weeks: one entry stops at Friday, the other runs Monday to Saturday, and both give 10am to 5pm on those days plus Sunday 10am to 4pm. On Friday 14 November 2025 the Brian House Instagram account put it in the spotlight, promising music and games as well as books and quoting 9:30am to 4:30pm, so check the day you plan to go.

Charity bookshop (Trinity Hospice)

Trinity Hospice Book Shop, Cleveleys

46 Victoria Rd W, Cleveleys, Thornton-Cleveleys FY5 1BU

Over in Cleveleys, in Wyre borough just past Blackpool's northern edge and 4.1 miles north of the centre, Trinity Hospice runs this Victoria Road West unit purely for books and music. A Facebook post from the charity's retail team on Friday 10 January 2025 walked through its sections, from mystery and thrillers, romance and sci-fi to classics, modern fiction and books for children and teenagers. The same post set out a seven-day week, matching what the shop finder showed in June 2026. Trinity also has a general charity shop at number 54, a few doors along, so make sure you walk into the right one.

Heritage-house bookshop

Lytham Hall Bookshop

Lytham Hall, Ballam Rd, Lytham FY8 4JX

In Lytham, part of Fylde borough roughly 5.9 miles away on a south-south-easterly line, the Georgian Lytham Hall keeps a bookshop inside its café building, opposite the café door, stocked with donated books whose sales help support the hall. On Sunday 31 May 2026 the hall's Instagram account announced that it had reopened after a little refurbishment, with titles across many genres, a few puzzles and a basket for anyone bringing books to donate. The visit page gives the bookshop 10am to 4pm; the grounds stay open year-round except on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and 1 January, while charges cover parking and entry to the house (£12 for adults), not the bookshop.

Museum secondhand bookshop

Fleetwood Museum Bookshop

Queen's Terrace, Fleetwood FY7 6BT

Fleetwood, the Wyre port at the northern tip of the Fylde, sits 7.6 miles from central Blackpool on a north-north-easterly bearing and has a secondhand book shop next door to Fleetwood Museum on Queen's Terrace. The museum's 2026 visit page runs its season from 31 March to 30 October, Tuesday to Saturday and on bank holiday Mondays, and the book shop shuts its doors 30 minutes ahead of the galleries. Donations of books go through the museum itself, by email or on 01253 876621, and the season dates mean a check before any trip after the end of October.

Secondhand bookshop and café

Coastal Chapter

14 North Albert St, Fleetwood FY7 6AA

On North Albert Street in Fleetwood, the Wyre borough port, a secondhand bookshop reopened with a café on Friday 8 May 2026, and the Blackpool Gazette photographed its tables set among shelves of used books that day. Its Instagram account was boasting of thousands of books in July 2026, when staff pulled out a 1904 maths book printed in Blackburn for weaving students, and a reel on Sunday 27 September 2026 showed pre-loved books, cosy corners and vintage games. Neither the Gazette piece nor the shop's posts give opening times, so check its social pages before you travel.

Second-hand bookshops

Secondhand bookshop

Blackpool Secondhand Bookshop

90 Topping St, Blackpool FY1 3AD

Number 90 Topping Street, a ground-floor unit that used to be a tattoo parlour, is where this independent shop came back down to street level, as its Facebook page announced in December 2022, after a spell upstairs in the Stanley Buildings round the corner. A 2024 InYourArea profile described stock leaning towards railways, ships and local history, plus industrial history, a subject its owner said he understands and enjoys. The latest published listing is the Blackpool Gazette's June 2025 round-up of independent bookshops in and around Blackpool, which still gave this address, and none of these reports carries opening times, so send the shop a message on Facebook before a special trip.

Charity shops

Charity shop (N-Vision)

N-Vision Charity Shop

16 Highfield Rd, Blackpool FY4 2JA

On Highfield Road in south Blackpool, 2.2 miles south of the town centre, N-Vision, the sight-loss charity for Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre, runs a shop whose stock it listed on 15 June 2026 as pre-loved clothing, books, homeware, accessories and bric-a-brac. That post on the charity's own website says each purchase helps fund its support for people living with sight loss, and it asks for unwanted books among the donations it welcomes. The site gives the shop's phone number, 01253 423550, but no opening times, so give the shop a call before making a special journey.

Charity bookshop (Trinity Hospice)

Kirkham Book and Music Store

17 Poulton St, Kirkham, Preston PR4 2AA

Kirkham, a Fylde market town 7.7 miles east-south-east of Blackpool, got its own Trinity Hospice book and music shop when the charity announced the opening at the start of September 2024. Its retail Facebook page promoted the Poulton Street shop again on Friday 24 January 2025, pitching page-turning novels next to classic records and CDs. Trinity's shop finder has it closed on Sundays, so plan it into a Monday-to-Saturday outing.

Local sourcing tips

  • Inside Abingdon Street Market, the renovated market hall in the town centre, Blackpool Libraries set up a Book Nook in November 2023 for books retired from its shelves, telling readers to take what they fancy and keep it. The library service was still pointing people to it in May 2024; it is a free shelf of retired library stock, not a shop, so treat anything you find as a bonus.
  • Norcross Car Boot, off the Norcross roundabout in Thornton (Wyre borough), trades through its season on Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesdays according to Visit Fylde Coast, whose events page lists a session on Saturday 3 October 2026 and warns that everything depends on the weather. Books aren't mentioned anywhere in that listing, so whatever turns up is down to the sellers.
  • Trinity Hospice's shop finder gives the same stock line, clothing, books, CDs and games, for its general shops across Blackpool, from Collins Avenue in Bispham to Central Drive and Waterloo Road. Because that wording is shared rather than written for any one branch, treat them as worth a glance when you're passing rather than destinations.
  • Oxfam's Lytham shop on Clifton Street names books among the donated goods it sells, on its branch page, in the version the Internet Archive saved on 16 April 2026. For opening times, that page tells you to phone the shop.
  • Lytham and St Annes also have independent bookshops selling new titles: Plackitt & Booth on Clifton Street, founded in 2002, and Storytellers, Inc. on The Crescent. Book, Bean & Ice Cream in Kirkham, trading since June 2000, pairs new books with a café counter. None of them is a sourcing stop, though Plackitt & Booth and Book, Bean & Ice Cream both put on author events.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I find cheap used books in Blackpool?

Start with Trinity Hospice's specialist book shops in Kirkham, Cleveleys and St Annes, where donations fill the shelves, then try Lytham Hall's bookshop, which is stocked the same way. Up in Fleetwood, Coastal Chapter pairs its coffee with a large stock of pre-loved titles. If you're in the town centre, Topping Street has the independent secondhand shop, and the library service's Book Nook in Abingdon Street Market was, at its last mention in May 2024, letting readers keep retired library books.

Where do I sell used books in Blackpool?

Selling mostly happens online: eBay.co.uk for collectable or specialist titles, Amazon.co.uk for books with steady demand, Vinted or Facebook Marketplace for popular fiction, and Ziffit if you want to clear a box of ordinary paperbacks in one go. Before listing, let BiblioScan sort the pile for you. Photograph a full row and the app identifies the books from their spines, then pins a likely resale figure on every one of them, which tells you which ones deserve a listing and which go in the donation bag for Trinity.

Which day is best for book hunting in Blackpool?

Go between Tuesday and Friday if you can. On those days the three Trinity book and music shops and, until 30 October, the Fleetwood Museum book shop are all open under every published timetable. Saturday works for Kirkham, Cleveleys and Fleetwood, while the St Annes shop's own listings disagree about Saturdays. On Sunday, Kirkham and the Fleetwood shop stay shut, and outside bank holidays Fleetwood is closed on Mondays too.

Which charity shops have books in Blackpool?

Trinity Hospice is the charity to know. Its Wood Street shop in St Annes, the Victoria Road West unit in Cleveleys and the Poulton Street shop in Kirkham concentrate on books and music, while its general shops in Blackpool, Lytham and Poulton-le-Fylde list books in their standard stock. Oxfam in Lytham also lists books among what it sells, and in Blackpool itself N-Vision named books in its Highfield Road stock in June 2026.
