BooksRun is the more reliable buyer: it quoted all ten test books and won seven of the nine both vendors priced, $478.95 against $264.71. World of Books is the more erratic one, with the best offer on two books it was short on and near-zero offers on the rest, so check it per ISBN rather than shipping it a box. Two patterns. BooksRun prices like a textbook wholesaler: consistent, rarely spectacular, never absurd, and it quoted every book. World of Books prices against its own inventory: when it needs a title it pays the most in the market (the Klarman, the omnibus), and when it does not, it offers pocket change, $0.32 for a photography book that sold 36 times last year at a median of $200. Read the last column too: even the ten best offers combined, $544, are 12 % of what the books sold for.

The one term that should change how you pack: World of Books recycles anything that fails its condition check and does not send it back. Do not include a book you would want returned.
When World of Books is the right choice
The honest part
When it wants your book, nobody beats it. The $151.11 on Margin of Safety was the top offer among 20+ vendors, and on popular comics and non-fiction it can be the same story. Its payout options (ACH, PayPal, check) and its tolerance for light highlighting are also friendlier than most. The way to use it is per title: check the ISBN, and if World of Books is at the top, send it that book, not the whole box.
When BooksRun is the right choice
For textbooks, technical titles, reference manuals and anything current-edition, BooksRun is the default: it quoted everything, won seven of nine, and was the only vendor to offer real money for the water-testing manual. A whole box of textbooks can go to BooksRun unchecked and you will rarely lose more than a few dollars per book.
When neither is enough
Moving the Mountain: $47.88 from BooksRun, $3.84 from World of Books, and a median sale price of $1,295 across eleven sales in the year. The Virginia code: $4.03 against $166. These are not rare books; they are the kind that turn up at estate sales and library sales every week, and a buyback vendor is the worst exit for them.
