Where to buy used books in Mississauga

Updated 10/21/2026

Distances on this page run from the Mississauga Civic Centre on City Centre Drive, and the area covered is the whole City of Mississauga, from Port Credit, Clarkson and Lakeview on the lake to Streetsville, Meadowvale, Cooksville, Dixie and Malton, plus the Town of Oakville and, wherever a stop there lies closer to Mississauga than to Brampton or Hamilton, the Town of Milton. Etobicoke and the rest of Toronto, Brampton with Caledon, and Burlington, which falls under Hamilton, are covered on other pages. Prices here are Canadian-dollar figures.

The 2021 census counted 717,961 people in Mississauga, 213,759 in Oakville and 132,979 in Milton, yet the book side of this list is built around libraries and fundraisers rather than shops. A volunteer Friends of the Library group keeps sale shelves at the Central Library, across from City Hall, and takes over its atrium on selected Saturdays, the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra stages a four-day used book sale in a Sheridan mall, its 31st edition held in September 2026, and the libraries in Oakville and Milton run sales of their own. For a shop with secondhand books on its shelves, head to Wildwood in downtown Milton, which sells them next to new novels.

The rest is thrift. Five secondhand stores sit within about 800 m of one another around Dixie Road and Dundas Street East, another Value Village trades from the Sandalwood Square plaza north of City Centre, and a volunteer charity shop on Kerr Street in Oakville rounds out the list. On the calendar, the Central Library's next atrium sale falls on Saturday, October 24, 2026, and the Oakville Friends hold their last sale of the year from December 3 to 5.

FOL Mississauga Book Shelves and Atrium Sales

301 Burnhamthorpe Road West (Hazel McCallion Central Library), Mississauga, ON L5B 3R2

Across from City Hall, the volunteer Friends group keeps two double-sided shelving units of donated books, textbooks and DVDs by the windows of the Central Library, to the right once you pass the customer service desk coming in from the atrium; each price is written on the cover or the first inside page, and you pay at that desk. The group's website adds that every Mississauga branch has a smaller corner of used books for sale and that, approximately every other month, the Friends take over the atrium itself for a Saturday sale. Its Instagram announced the next one on October 19, 2026 for Saturday, October 24, between 9:30am and 4:30pm, with fiction, cookbooks, art, self-help, children's nonfiction, collectibles, jigsaws and DVDs on the poster, after a summer round on August 22, 2026 that also advertised graphic novels, manga and Chinese-language books.

Orchestra fundraising book sale

Mississauga Symphony Orchestra Giant Used Book Sale

Sherwood Village, lower level, 2225 Erin Mills Pkwy, Mississauga, ON

In Sheridan, 6.6 km south of the Mississauga Civic Centre, the orchestra takes over the lower level of Sherwood Village, the mall long known as Sheridan Centre, for what its own sale page calls the 31st annual used book sale, held from Thursday evening, September 17 to Sunday, September 20, 2026, cash only and with everything at half price on the Sunday. The archived sale page from August 2026 advertised classical vinyl, Great Courses on an education table and German, French and Polish novels on a languages table, and the orchestra afterwards thanked shoppers for raising more than $83,000. insauga described it on September 10, 2026 as the symphony's main fundraising event of the year, and the orchestra had also advertised a one-day spring sale for Saturday, April 25, 2026. Donated books, records, DVDs, puzzles, games and sheet music go in through door 25 on the P2 parking level behind the Metro, a drop-off the orchestra said would open again on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

Friends of OPL Book Sales

Central Branch Auditorium, 120 Navy St, Oakville, ON L6J 2Z4

In downtown Oakville, 16.3 km south of Mississauga City Hall, the volunteer committee behind the library's Friends program lists four 2026 sales in the auditorium of the Central Branch, and the last one runs from Thursday, December 3 to Saturday, December 5. Any single book costs $2, a tote you fill on the spot is $15, two are $25 and refilling a Friends tote costs $10, paid by contactless card or in cash. The organizer restocks every day of a sale and suggests coming more than once; the earlier 2026 rounds fell at the end of February, May and September.

Independent bookshop with secondhand shelves

Wildwood Bookstore & Market

207 Main St E, Milton, ON L9T 1N7

In downtown Milton, 21 km from the Civic Centre on a west-southwest line, Wildwood moved into a storefront in late November 2025 after starting out as a mobile stall at local events such as Summerfest, according to a MiltonToday report published on December 8, 2025. The shop focuses on fiction and sells newly published novels alongside a secondhand collection that, by its own account, you browse in the store rather than in its online catalogue. The same article said customers can trade in used books for store credit, and handmade goods, clothes and jewellery fill the rest of the shop. Plan around its days off, Wednesday and Sunday.

Thrift stores & charity shops

Volunteer charity shop (IODE)

IODE Angela Bruce Chapter Thrift Shop

432 Kerr St, Oakville, ON L6K 3C4

In Oakville, on Kerr Street near Speers Road and 16.3 km south-southwest of City Centre Drive, the Angela Bruce Chapter of the IODE runs Thrifty Finds, a shop staffed by volunteers whose website lists books next to clothing, home decor, kitchenware and toys and promises your next page-turner among the tea sets and jewellery. Everything for sale is donated and payment is cash or debit only, and Oakville News reported that money from the shop paid for eleven $2,000 bursaries handed to local high school graduates at a ceremony on June 14, 2026. The chapter dates its first shop to 1943, and the opening days match the Mississauga Halton Healthline listing, last fully revised on July 14, 2026.

Mission Thrift Store

Mission Thrift Store Mississauga

3130 Dixie Rd, Mississauga, ON L4Y 2A6

On Dixie Road a short walk north of Talize, 5.2 km east-northeast of Mississauga City Hall, this Mission Thrift Store has posted about its own book stock: on December 30, 2025, its Instagram priced books at $1 each through the week ending January 3, 18 days after a December 12 post tagged #booksforkids. On July 25, 2026 the same account said every department gets fresh stock daily, and Sheridan Student Union's SheridanLife blog, writing on February 2, 2026, rated the shop for furniture and called it the most overlooked of the area's thrift stores. An October 2025 copy of its store page in the Internet Archive gave over-65s 25 per cent off on Wednesdays, and a seniors' day post on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 repeated a 25 per cent discount on full-priced items.

Hours: Mon–Sat 10am–8pmWebsite
Talize

Talize Mississauga

3100 Dixie Rd, Mississauga, ON L4Y 2A6

On the same stretch of Dixie Road as Mission Thrift, Talize describes this store as one where donations arrive daily and the clothing, furniture and housewares turn over constantly; its store page says nothing about books, so treat any shelf you find as a bonus. When Sheridan Student Union's SheridanLife blog toured local thrift stores on February 2, 2026, it found the place huge and sorted by colour and size, noted a daily Manager's Sale cutting 50 per cent off one category, and said students save with the Student Price Card. According to the chain, donations left here help fund Talize's community programs.

Value Village

Value Village Mississauga (Dundas Street East)

1475 Dundas St E, Mississauga, ON L4X 1L3

On Dundas Street East near Dixie Road, about 5.5 km from the Civic Centre, this Value Village places itself across the street from DOT Furniture on its store page, a copy of which the Internet Archive saved on May 13, 2026 with the same weekly hours. Books turn up there only in a stock sentence Savers runs on its branch pages and in a Books & media line among accepted donations, so nothing confirms how much shelf space this particular store gives them. Savers says shopping here benefits no charity, though it pays the Oasis Clothing Bank for clothing and household goods left at the door, and on Tuesdays customers aged 60 or over save 30 per cent.

Hours: Mon–Sat 9am–9pm, Sun 10am–7pmWebsite
Goodwill Community Store

Goodwill Community Store Mississauga

1224 Dundas St E, Mississauga, ON L4Y 2C5

Goodwill Industries, Ontario Great Lakes runs this community store and its donation centre on Dundas Street East, 5 km out from City Centre Drive and the southernmost of the Dixie-area thrift stores listed here. Its page lists books only among the goods it accepts as donations, and Goodwill's national site presents its work as job training and career support. Rounding up the neighbourhood's secondhand shops on February 2, 2026, Sheridan Student Union's SheridanLife blog counted books in this branch's mix and flagged its weekly colour-tag sales.

Salvation Army Thrift Store

The Salvation Army Thrift Store Mississauga

1458 Dundas St E, Mississauga, ON L4X 1L4

On Dundas Street East, roughly 5.6 km from City Hall and the farthest east of the Dixie-area stops, this Salvation Army store has a Donor Welcome Centre on site, skips the tax on most purchases as a non-profit and gives seniors a 10 per cent daily discount. Its entry in the Mississauga Halton Healthline directory, which the directory says was last fully updated on September 22, 2026, lists books with the goods it sells, in wording identical to the entry for the charity's Streetsville store. On February 2, 2026, the Sheridan Student Union's SheridanLife blog called it one of the largest Salvation Army locations in Mississauga and a handy stop on a thrift crawl.

Hours: Mon–Sat 10am–8pmWebsite
Value Village

Value Village West Mississauga

70 Bristol Rd E, Mississauga, ON L4Z 3K8

In Sandalwood Square on Bristol Road East, 3.2 km north-northwest of Mississauga City Hall, is the branch Savers names West Mississauga, and a capture of its page made by the Internet Archive on June 7, 2026 shows the address and opening times unchanged. Donations of clothing and housewares made here earn money for Diabetes Canada. As at the chain's Dundas Street store, books appear only in the boilerplate stock sentence and the Books & media item on the donations checklist, so the shelf is unknown until you walk in.

Milton Public Library Annual Book Sale

Main Library, 1010 Main St E, Milton, ON

In Milton, at the Main Library about 19 km west-southwest of Mississauga's City Hall, the public library bills its book sale as an annual event; its 2026 round, from March 14 to 22, put adult and children's collections in the Main Library and kids' titles in the Beaty and Sherwood branches. MiltonToday's preview of March 13, 2026 said the sale followed regular library hours, that all three branches took donations and that the proceeds pay for library programs. For its November 2024 round, the library's event listing promised more than 9,000 titles along with DVDs and audiobooks.

Local sourcing tips

  • Between the Friends' sales, Oakville Public Library puts handpicked used books and audiovisual items, which it calls Friendly Finds, on sale at every branch. Book donations for the Friends are accepted all year, but only at the Central Branch on Navy Street.
  • RetroRare Comics, at 5200 Dixie Road, sorts Silver Age, Golden Age, key and graded issues on its website and its Instagram bio advertises buying, selling and trading. Call (289) 521-7273 to check opening times before making the trip.
  • Several bookish names here sell new stock. The Book Wardrobe in Streetsville, open since 2017, sells new titles as an independent shop, and the Indigo stores at Square One and Erin Mills sell new books only.
  • Value Village has three more stores in reach, on Eglinton Avenue West and in Oakville on Hampshire Gate and Cross Avenue, and the Salvation Army has others in Streetsville, on Kerr Street in Oakville and on Main Street East in Milton, where the regional health-services directory names books among the stock. They make sense as detours when you are already in the neighbourhood.
  • In Milton, CFUW Milton, a university women's club, held its 50th annual used book sale at the Milton Mall in March 2025, raising money for a scholarship, according to MiltonToday. The coverage gives no date for a later edition, so check the club's website before planning around one.
  • The Mississauga Symphony takes donations for its next sale on Tuesday afternoons and Thursday mornings, but refuses condensed Reader's Digest editions, encyclopedias, textbooks and magazines, plus VHS, cassette tapes and 78 rpm records.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I find cheap used books in Mississauga?

Start with the Friends' shelves at the Central Library, where each book is priced individually, and come back for the atrium sale on Saturday, October 24, 2026. In Oakville, the December 3 to 5 sale charges $2 a book and a filled tote costs $15, and the Mississauga Symphony halves its prices on the Sunday of its September sale. Among the thrift stores, Mission Thrift on Dixie Road ran a $1-a-book week at the end of December 2025.

Where do I sell used books in Mississauga?

On this page, only Wildwood in Milton takes used books in trade, for store credit, while the library Friends groups and the Mississauga Symphony accept donations rather than buying. Copies worth real money are better listed online, on AbeBooks and Amazon.ca for collectable titles or on Kijiji and Facebook Marketplace for local buyers. Photograph the shelf with BiblioScan to settle which copies those are, since the app matches the spines it can identify and shows what each one might fetch on resale.

Which day is best for book hunting in Mississauga?

Saturday, when every stop with regular hours is open, from Wildwood and the Oakville IODE shop to the five Dixie and Dundas thrift stores, and when the Central Library holds its atrium sales. Sunday is thinner: Mission Thrift, the Salvation Army, Wildwood and the IODE shop all stay shut. Both Value Villages run their seniors' discount on Tuesdays, worth 30 per cent from age 60, and Mission Thrift has kept Wednesday as its seniors' day.

When is the big book sale in Mississauga?

The Mississauga Symphony Orchestra's sale in September is the big one: its 31st edition filled September 17 to 20, 2026 at Sherwood Village, and a shorter spring sale was billed for April 2026. For something sooner, the library Friends in Mississauga hold an atrium sale on October 24, 2026, and Oakville's Friends follow in early December.
