Where to buy used books in Brampton

Updated 10/21/2026

This guide works outward from Brampton City Hall on Wellington Street West. It covers the City of Brampton plus two neighbours to the west and north: Halton Hills, with stops in Georgetown and the hamlet of Glen Williams, and the Town of Caledon, represented by an antique market on Hurontario Street. Bolton, although part of Caledon, lies closer to Vaughan, and Acton sits nearer Guelph, so neither has a stop here. Every price mentioned below is in Canadian dollars.

Inside the city the hunting happens in thrift stores rather than bookshops. Value Village, Talize and the Salvation Army each have a store within a few kilometres of City Hall, while the independent Encore, on McLaughlin Road North, has put books on sale by name in its own posts, with a half-price children's book day in June 2025.

Head west and the stock gets more interesting. Georgetown has a charity reuse centre that sorts its books into hardcovers, paperbacks, romances and children's titles, an animal-shelter thrift shop, and a summer run of Saturday book tables outside the library, while Glen Williams and Caledon each add an antique market where comic books turn up next to the glassware.

Library Friends' Saturday book table

Friends of the Halton Hills Public Library Saturday Book Sales

Georgetown Branch, 9 Church St, Georgetown, ON L7G 2A3

In Georgetown, in Halton Hills about 14 km west-southwest of Brampton City Hall, the volunteer Friends of the Halton Hills Public Library sell donated books on Saturday mornings in front of the library's Georgetown branch through the summer. Their Facebook page announced on May 31, 2026 that the season would open on June 6, running from 9am to 12:30pm each Saturday; a year earlier the tables went out from May 31 and, by the Friends' own post, were due to stay until Thanksgiving. The library's page on the group asks for fiction for all ages, graphic novels, manga, films, CDs and puzzles, and turns away textbooks, encyclopedias and magazines. By October 21, 2026 the Friends had published neither a closing date for this season nor a start for 2027, so look at their Facebook page before you plan a Saturday around it.

Antique market with books and comics

Inglewood Antique Market

16083 Hurontario St, Caledon, ON L7C 2G6

In the Town of Caledon, on Hurontario Street 20.1 km northwest of City Hall, Inglewood Antique Market fills a barn with the stock of fifteen dealers, and its website names books and magazines, comics and graphic novels among the categories on sale. In October 2024 its Instagram account showed a large intake of antique books and vintage science fiction magazines, and a February 19, 2026 post still listed comic books and trading cards in the mix. The website gives a Caledon Village mailing address and daily opening times, while that February post said Wednesday to Sunday only, so phone 905-838-4000 before a Monday or Tuesday drive.

Volunteer-run school charity thrift shop

Encore Thrift Store

9446 McLaughlin Rd N, Unit 2, Brampton, ON L6X 4H9

On McLaughlin Road North, 1.9 km west of City Hall, Encore is a volunteer-run thrift shop whose proceeds go to John Knox Christian School in Brampton, which calls it a non-profit, non-denominational organization. Books and magazines are on the school's list of welcome donations, and on Saturday, June 28, 2025, the store's Facebook page put children's books at half price. Another post, on August 5, 2026, advertised half off the whole store for the following Saturday, and the store's website gives shoppers aged 60 and over 10 per cent off non-sale items on Wednesdays. The school's page gives shorter donation drop-off hours, until 5pm on weekdays and 4pm on Saturdays, so the times below come from the store's contact page.

Charity reuse centre

Wastewise (Halton Hills) Community Resource Centre

12 Armstrong Ave, Georgetown, ON

In Georgetown, on Armstrong Avenue, a 12.4 km trip west-southwest from City Hall, Wastewise is a registered charity and recycling centre that says it has been operating since 1991 and funds itself by selling used goods, returning its sale proceeds to the community. Its online shop list splits the books into children's books without chapters, children's chapter and series books, hardcover novels, paperbacks and Harlequin or Silhouette romances, alongside its CDs, DVDs and records. In October 2020 the charity's Facebook page reported more than 10,000 books sold in one day, much of it to a Netflix production, and that page carried a new post as recently as September 9, 2026.

Thrift stores & charity shops

Animal-shelter charity shop

Upper Credit Humane Society Thrift Shop

68 Main St N, Georgetown, ON L7G 3H3

In Georgetown's Moore Park Plaza on Main Street North, 14.4 km out from City Hall to the west-southwest, the Upper Credit Humane Society runs a volunteer-staffed thrift shop that it says covers about 35 per cent of its yearly shelter operating costs. It welcomes games and books as donations, apart from encyclopedias, textbooks and Reader's Digests, and an Instagram post from July 2024 said its shelves were overflowing with good reads. Items shown in the front window go to a monthly auction, and the society's site set the next live bidding for 3:30pm on Saturday, October 31, 2026. The most recent opening times it published date from 2022, so call before a weekday visit.

Salvation Army Thrift Store

The Salvation Army Thrift Store Brampton-South

263 Queen St E, Unit 8, Brampton, ON L6W 4K6

The Salvation Army's Brampton-South store, as the charity names it, stands on Queen Street East near Rutherford Road South, 2.1 km northeast of City Hall, and has a donor welcome centre at the same location. Its page lists a daily 10 per cent discount at participating stores for customers 60 or older, plus 15 per cent for Student Price Card holders, and the charity skips the sales tax on most goods since it is a non-profit. Books & Media is only one line in the department list the charity prints on its store pages, so the size of the book section here is unknown; Peel's community information directory, which last fully updated its listing on May 13, 2026, sums up the merchandise as new and used goods, books included.

Hours: Mon–Sat 9am–9pmWebsite
Value Village

Value Village S Brampton

Shoppers World Brampton, 499 Main St S, Brampton, ON L6Y 1N7

At Shoppers World Brampton on Main Street South, this Value Village, 2.9 km southeast of City Hall, shares its address with a donation centre where, according to the chain, clothing and household items go to its local non-profit partner, the Canadian Red Cross. On the store page Savers, the company that runs the chain, calls itself a for-profit business and says shopping there benefits no charity, though the company says it compensates non-profits for donated goods. Books appear only in a sentence the chain uses for its stores and in the list of accepted donations, and Internet Archive copies from April 2025 to June 2026 carry the same text, so expect a hit-or-miss shelf. Senior Tuesday knocks 30 per cent off for customers aged 60 and over.

Hours: Mon–Sat 9am–9pm, Sun 10am–7pmWebsite
Talize

Talize Brampton

547 Steeles Ave E, Unit 4, Brampton, ON L6W 4S2

On Steeles Avenue East, 3.4 km east of City Hall, Talize runs its Brampton store from Unit 4 at number 547, and the chain's page for it talks about clothing, furniture and housewares, with fresh donations every day, but says nothing about books. Across the chain, the Talize home page offers a fifth item free when you buy four in its Book & Media category and cuts prices for seniors by 30 per cent every Tuesday. Its Instagram account announced on October 18, 2026 a 30 per cent discount on Halloween costumes at every store except the one in Delta, British Columbia.

Antique market in a historic mill

Beaumont Mill Antiques & Collectibles

586 Main St, Glen Williams, ON L7G 3T6

In Glen Williams, a hamlet of Halton Hills 13.7 km west of City Hall, Beaumont Mill Antiques & Collectibles trades from a historic mill building on Main Street. West of Toronto Life, visiting for a July 24, 2026 article, found several floors of glassware, jewellery, toys, tools and posters, with an especially large collection of comic books that included some rarer finds. The same piece notes that the market is cash only, with an ATM on site, that it closes on Mondays and Tuesdays, and that a walkway leads to a smaller consignment shop next door. Books other than comics did not come up in that article, so treat this as a comics stop first.

Local sourcing tips

  • Caledon's library sale happens in Bolton, which sits closer to Vaughan than to Brampton. The Friends of Caledon Public Library sell from a second-floor unit in the Royal Courtyards on King Street East, and their fall sale, posted for four Saturdays in October 2026, ends on October 24, with adult books at $2 while kids' and YA books go five for $1.
  • Brampton Library itself is a weak lead for now. Its events calendar shows a single book sale, nine days at the South Fletcher's branch from August 22 to 30, 2025, nothing for 2026 as of October 21, and its donation page says it is not accepting books at the moment.
  • Stadium Comics, a Brampton name for over 30 years by its own account, no longer keeps a storefront. It sells online, lets customers collect orders from its warehouse on Wednesdays, and holds its back-issue sales on the website rather than in a shop.
  • Not every bookish address here sells used copies: Brampton Books on McCaul Street sells Punjabi books through an online catalogue that never mentions second-hand stock, Knowledge Bookstore on Queen Street West says nothing about used books on its website either, and the Brampton Book Expo at Shoppers World on October 31, 2026 is a fair for local authors. The second Value Village, on Bovaird Drive East, uses the same chain wording on books as the Main Street South store, and its posted Sunday hours contain an obvious error, so check by phone.
  • EBM Thrift Store, inside Centennial Mall on Vodden Street East, names books as something donors may drop off, not as something on its shelves, and its website, republished on October 14, 2026, says donations are paused while staff process the stock.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I find cheap used books in Brampton?

Look just west of the city first. In summer the Halton Hills library's volunteer Friends put out tables of donated books in front of the Georgetown branch on Saturday mornings, and Wastewise on Armstrong Avenue keeps its novels, romances and children's books sorted by type. Inside Brampton, watch Encore Thrift Store's Facebook page for its half-price days, which have included children's books, and treat the chain thrift stores as a grab bag.

Where do I sell used books in Brampton?

Online, mostly: the thrift stores, sales and markets in this guide take donations or sell to you, and none of them posts an offer to buy. Collectable copies suit Amazon.ca and AbeBooks, mixed boxes move on Kijiji or Facebook Marketplace, and comic runs do well on eBay.ca. Before listing anything, shoot the shelf once with BiblioScan; every book whose spine the app can identify in that single frame gets a resale figure attached, so the duds can go to Wastewise as donations.

Which day is best for book hunting in Brampton?

Saturday. All five stops that carry an hours line here trade on Saturdays, and from June the Friends' tables in Georgetown join them for the morning. Sunday is thinner: Encore and the Salvation Army close, which leaves Value Village, Talize, Wastewise and the Inglewood market, while Beaumont Mill has not published its Sunday hours. Monday shuts Wastewise and, by that July 2026 article, Beaumont Mill, and Inglewood's February 2026 post left Mondays out too.

When is the big library book sale in Brampton?

Not inside the city this year: no Brampton Library sale appeared on its 2026 calendar as of October 21, and the most recent one wrapped up at the South Fletcher's branch on August 30, 2025. The steadier option is Georgetown, where the library's Friends opened their 2026 Saturday season on June 6, while Caledon's library volunteers keep selling in Bolton on Saturdays through October 24, 2026.
