Where to buy used books in Layton

Updated 10/18/2026

Layton, the Davis County city spread along I-15 between Ogden and Salt Lake City, offers slim pickings to a secondhand-book hunter, so plan a short run here rather than a full day. Both stops sit within a mile of City Hall on Wasatch Drive: a nonprofit thrift store that posted about its book shelves in 2026, and a single booth of used books in the back lot of a vintage shop on Main Street. The towns around it, Kaysville, Fruit Heights and Farmington to the south, Clearfield, Syracuse, Clinton, Sunset and West Point to the west and north, South Weber to the northeast and Hill Air Force Base to the north, add leads rather than addresses: a library sale corner, a thrift shop behind the base gate and a Kaysville bookstore that keeps no website or dated posts.

Layton's mall used-book counter, Eborn Books in Layton Hills Mall, is listed on our Ogden page. None of the stops below advertises buying books, so a box you mean to sell goes online or to that consignment desk, while the two addresses below are for buying cheap and turning the stock over yourself.

Used-book booth in a vintage shop's back lot

HoneyB's Books

Booth 7, American Rust & Patina, 110 N Main St, Layton, UT 84041

Booth 7 sits in the back lot of American Rust & Patina, the vintage shop at 110 North Main Street about 0.4 miles southwest of City Hall, and the booth's Facebook page promises a small but varied run of gently used bestsellers, classics, fiction, nonfiction and kids' books. The booth stayed busy into fall 2026: on Saturday, October 3 it put Halloween titles, classics and banned books on the shelves for a back-lot evening running until 10pm, with a Goosebumps deal after 6pm. Its regular week, given on the page and repeated in a July 17, 2026 post, is Monday through Saturday, and its summer Blind Date With a Book bundles were halved to $5 in a post of August 21, 2026.

Nonprofit thrift store (Switchpoint)

Switchpoint Exchange

860 N Fairfield Rd, Layton, UT 84041

Three-quarters of a mile northeast of City Hall on North Fairfield Road, this is the Layton store of Switchpoint, the Utah nonprofit that works with people experiencing homelessness, and KSL's story of March 27, 2026 says it held a grand opening celebration that Wednesday, with proceeds going mainly to the group's teen living center nearby. Books get their own airtime on the store's Facebook page, which posted a video captioned "So. Many. Good. Books!!" on June 9, 2026 and, on July 9, announced 50% off toys and books for that Friday and Saturday, new books in the boutique section excepted. Opening times come in two versions: a Switchpoint LinkedIn post of February 27, 2026, written as the store first opened, promised doors open from 9am until 5pm every day but Sunday, while a thrift-store directory lists 10am to 6pm on weekdays and 10am to 7pm on Saturday, so check before an early or late visit.

Local sourcing tips

  • Eborn Books, the used-book store on Level 1 of Layton Hills Mall beside JCPenney, belongs to our Ogden page and is not repeated here, yet it stands about 0.55 miles north of the Thrifting Simply storefront on Main Street and fits the same loop. The mall's store page claims a stock above half a million books spanning new copies, secondhand ones and scarce out-of-print titles, and marks it closed on Sundays, and the chain's locations page tells would-be consignors that interest in an item varies from one store to the next with geographic demand.
  • Davis County Library holds its used book sales at individual branches. Its Instagram account called readers to the Clearfield Branch on North Main Street, about 4.7 miles northwest, for a sale held Saturday, July 18, 2026; the library's events calendar showed nothing further as of October 18, 2026. Eleven miles south in Centerville, the branch keeps what the library's Facebook page described on May 5, 2026 as an ongoing book sale corner of gently used books and DVDs.
  • The chain thrift stores along Hill Field Road and Main Street are a gamble for books rather than a plan. Deseret Industries at 930 West Hill Field Road and Goodwill at 1010 West Hill Field Road publish store pages that never mention books, and the Savers page for 957 North Main Street names books only in a stock sentence that its Ogden and Taylorsville pages repeat word for word, which makes them worth a pass on the way by rather than a destination.
  • Thrifting Simply, the thrift store at 717 North Main Street, talks about books in a single Facebook post between mid-August and mid-October 2026, an August 18 invitation to Utah teachers carrying a school or district ID to collect free books for their classrooms, and none of those posts shows books on sale, so treat it as a look on the way to Savers rather than a book stop.
  • Hill Thrift Shop, in Building 841 on H Avenue inside Hill Air Force Base, opens for shopping on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and its notice for the week of October 21, 2026 puts books among the items it is refusing as donations. It is behind the base gate, so it only works for shoppers who already have access to the base.
  • In Kaysville, about 1.7 miles south, business directories file a Kaysville Bookstore under used books at 550 North Main Street, Suite 5, and the business keeps no website or social page with a dated post, so its stock and opening times cannot be confirmed from anything it publishes; phone before making the trip.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I find cheap used books in Layton?

Watch the stores' own sale posts. Switchpoint Exchange took half off toys and used books for a Friday and Saturday in July 2026, and HoneyB's Books marked its last three summer Blind Date bundles down to $5 that August. On the library side, the most recent Davis County sale was in Clearfield in July 2026, and the Centerville branch keeps a standing sale corner, though that is an eleven-mile drive.

Where do I sell used books in Layton?

Not over a counter in the city itself: neither of the two stops here advertises buying books, and Switchpoint stocks its floor from public donations, as KSL reported. The nearest thing to a trade desk is consignment at the Eborn Books unit in Layton Hills Mall, which the chain handles store by store and which is covered on our Ogden page. Anything better than donation-bin stock deserves its own eBay or Amazon listing, and the sorting can happen at home: one BiblioScan photo of a crowded shelf tags every recognizable spine with what that title fetches secondhand, and the few strong copies get pulled aside before a single carton is taped.

Which day is best for book hunting in Layton?

Saturday. HoneyB's Books opens from 11am to 6pm and Switchpoint Exchange is open whichever of its two posted schedules is current; on August 8, September 12 and October 3, 2026 the American Rust & Patina back lot also stayed open for evening markets until 10pm, with HoneyB's trading. Sunday is a lost day for both stops, since HoneyB's keeps a Monday-to-Saturday week and neither version of Switchpoint's hours includes Sunday, and the Eborn unit at the mall is shut that day too.

When is the big library book sale in Layton?

There isn't one on the Layton calendar. Davis County Library's latest used book sale took place at the Clearfield Branch, 1 North Main Street, on Saturday, July 18, 2026, with nothing later listed by mid-October 2026; the Layton Branch on Wasatch Drive hosts other events, such as the Utah Authors Day set for December 5, 2026, but no book sale.
