Dan Wedge opened here on December 10, 1989 and the store's About page still carries his description of the model — a new bookstore with a strange source of supply, stocked from the public but also from other used shops, publisher overstock and charity book sales — before he handed the counter to Joseph Nathan as the business turned thirty. Its site, footer dated 2026, publishes the complete week and very little else: three pages, no catalog, no stock list, nothing to order. The shelves are the whole inventory, so come to browse rather than to collect a title.

Over in Troy, at Fourth and Division in the Little Italy neighborhood, in the building that used to house Collar City Guitars. Troy's Historic Little Italy posted on June 21, 2026 that John Naughter had just opened the place, that it was trading Wednesday to Saturday from four until nine after a soft launch the previous week, and that no sign hung out front yet. The operator gives the address as first and second floors, and a visitor's Instagram write-up of July 10, 2026 walked both of them. Its buying hour is narrow and published on the shop's own site: five until eight on Wednesday evenings, or an appointment instead.

A four-tenths-of-a-mile walk north from Aftersun brings you to Monument Square in Troy and the Victorian-era Cannon building, where the books share the floor with cheap furniture, clothing and oddments. Jessica DuPont of Half Moon Books supplies the shelves, and the store asks for art, architecture, photography, local history, science, science fiction, literature, philosophy and the occult; it looks at nothing without an appointment, wants photographs by email first, and does not do consignment. Its own timetable puts an -ish after every closing hour because a single person covers each day, so treat the grid below as an intention. The Facebook feed puts the shop shut from August 20 to 27, 2026 for renovations, and a post on September 3, 2026 announces it open again and restocked with furniture.
