• Only two counters here will take stock off your hands, and neither wants a mixed carton. Once Upon Again in Derry runs a buy-back scheme it calls Second Chance, and it was asking for fiction in the first days of September 2026; Double Midnight on Willow Street buys comics by online appointment, routes bigger hauls through [email protected], offers appraisals, and says it will drive to a collection worth the fuel. Bound Together accepts donated books rather than paying for them, and the Goffstown Friends publish the strictest intake list of the lot: no textbooks, no encyclopedias, nothing damp or damaged. Clearing general hardcovers inside Manchester itself, you will find no local desk that wants them — that is the honest state of this market.
• Four names will burn an afternoon if an old directory sends you after them. Book Cellar shut its Manchester location and said so on its own page. Used Book Superstore at 293 Daniel Webster Highway in Nashua is marked closed on Yelp and the chain now heads its website with Burlington alone — and that address sits outside this map anyway, roughly twenty miles from the center. Downtown Manchester gives you the only pair on foot — the Pine Street library and Antiques on Elm are about three quarters of a mile apart, with Double Midnight another half mile southeast on Willow. After that: Auburn five miles east, Goffstown seven west, Derry ten east, Nashua sixteen south. Nashua carries the deepest bench of the lot with three separate stops, so if you only have one afternoon, take Route 3 south and do West Pearl Street, Court Street and Route 101A in that order. Serious hunters look further out and leave the box entirely: Old Number Six Book Depot in Henniker and Boomer's Books on North Stark Highway in Weare both lie west of this map, and both come up again and again when New Hampshire readers swap recommendations on Reddit.
