Where to buy used books in Los Lunas

Updated 10/18/2026

Los Lunas, on the Rio Grande some 20 miles south of Albuquerque, has a slim used-book offer: on this page the village itself contributes one stop, a Friends of the Library shelf at the front of the public library on Main Street. Widen the net to the towns and villages around it, Belen, Bosque Farms, Peralta, Tomé, Meadow Lake, Rio Communities and Isleta Pueblo, and two more stops join it: the Belen Friends' bookstore and a sale run by the Bosque Farms library. The Friends in Belen describe their shop as the only dedicated bookstore in Valencia County.

That makes the drive south on NM-314 to downtown Belen the one trip with real shelf depth, and it only works Tuesday through Saturday afternoons. Bosque Farms is worth a December check: its library gave December 2025 over to a book sale it calls annual. If you need trade counters, chains or a full Saturday loop, Albuquerque has its own page and is the next stop up the interstate; Socorro covers the stretch further south.

Books on Becker

513 Becker Ave, Belen, NM 87002

In the city of Belen, ten miles south, the Friends of the Belen Public Library staff this nonprofit secondhand shop with volunteers, and their annual letter of November 2025 sums it up as seven rooms, comfy chairs and thousands of $1 books, with kids, teens, teachers and homeschoolers each taking two regular-price books free on every visit. The same letter notes that volunteers flag the valuable donations for eBay, so expect the shelves to have been culled once before you reach them. On August 11, 2026 the group's Facebook page was still running its summer markdown, two regular-price books for $1 outside the children's, teen and front-room shelves and paperbacks at $1 a bag, and a post on September 27, 2026 restated the Tuesday-to-Saturday afternoon schedule, cash or card. Book and media donations go over the counter whenever the store is open.

Friends of the Los Lunas Public Library used-book shelf

Los Lunas Public Library, 460 Main St NE, Los Lunas, NM 87031

Under a mile southeast of Village Hall, the Friends of the Los Lunas Public Library and Museum keep a selection of used books for sale at the front of the library, which their Facebook post of December 18, 2025 pointed readers to while thanking Valencia County News-Bulletin readers for voting the group the county's best community service nonprofit. The Friends publish no prices and no stock count, so plan on a short browse while you are in town rather than an outing built around it. The library's own hours page shows it closed on Sundays; reach the desk on (505) 839-3850.

Bosque Farms Public Library Book Sale

1455 W Bosque Loop, Bosque Farms, NM 87068

In the village of Bosque Farms, roughly 3.5 miles northeast of Village Hall, the public library describes its book sale as annual in its December 2025 newsletter, which had it running in the Community Room for the whole month during regular library hours. When this page was checked in mid-October 2026, the village had not posted dates for a December 2026 round, so call (505) 869-2227 before you plan around it. Its library page, which carries a closure notice for Indigenous Peoples Day on Monday, October 12, sets a 4:30pm close Monday to Friday and a 2pm close on Saturday, with a 10am start on all six days and Sunday off.

Local sourcing tips

  • Two thrift stores on the Los Lunas side are worth a glance but not a promise. Goodwill Industries of New Mexico has a store on Desert Willow Road NW whose web page lists books in the same stock list Goodwill uses for its other New Mexico stores, so treat a book section as a maybe. St. Vincent de Paul runs a thrift store at 960 Main St NE, behind the Enterprise store, with half-price days on each month's second Saturday according to its own site, which says nothing about books either way.
  • The Los Lunas Friends also run a gift shop and book store at the Museum of Heritage & Arts, under the water tower on Main Street. Their May 18, 2026 post pitched it for gifts and history titles by local authors, which reads as regional new stock rather than secondhand, so go for local history, not for bargains.
  • For free paperbacks, the same Friends group says it maintains five little free libraries around Los Lunas. Take one, leave one, and do not expect anything scannable: these boxes exist for readers, and stripping them for resale is the fastest way to get a neighborhood annoyed with you.
  • Out in Peralta, Dragon Matthew Books, Art & Gifts calls itself a source of used and new books alongside handmade art on its Facebook page. Its 2025 and 2026 posts show artwork rather than shelves and list no opening times, so message the page ahead of any visit.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I find cheap used books in Los Lunas?

Belen is where the dollar books are. Books on Becker prices thousands of titles at $1 and gives children, teens, teachers and homeschoolers two free books a visit, and in the group's 2026 summer markdown pairs of regular-price titles went for a dollar while a bag of paperbacks cost the same. In Los Lunas itself, the Friends' used-book selection at the Main Street NE library is the nearest you get to a bargain bin, open whenever the library is.

Where do I sell used books in Los Lunas?

None of the three stops on this page buys books: two are run by Friends of the Library groups, and the third is the Bosque Farms library's own sale. So the selling happens online, through eBay or buyback comparison sites like BookScouter, and the useful step is knowing which books are worth the listing fee. Run the shelf past BiblioScan first: one photo, and every spine in it gets its own resale figure, which tells you which titles earn an eBay listing and which box heads to Belen as a donation.

Which day is best for book hunting in Los Lunas?

Tuesday through Saturday, because Books on Becker in Belen opens only those five afternoons, noon to 5pm, and its seven rooms are the deepest shelves on this page. Pair it with the library shelf in Los Lunas, open Monday to Saturday 9am to 6pm, on the way down or back. Sunday is dead: none of the three stops opens. Monday leaves you the Los Lunas library, plus Bosque Farms if its sale comes back in December.

When is the big library book sale in Los Lunas?

Neither the Los Lunas library nor its Friends had a dated 2026 sale posted on October 18, 2026. The closest library sale listed on this page sits in Bosque Farms, where the library ran a book sale it labels annual through December 2025, in its Community Room and during regular hours. As of October 18, 2026, no 2026 dates had been posted; the library desk at (505) 869-2227 is the place to ask.
